Safety Criteria

To implement the safety device guidelines to the medical settings and device manufacturing industry, FDA provides the safety syringe reference standard that includes the following:

  1. Provide a shield between the operator and the needle after used.
  2. The hands of operator remain behind the needle at all times.
  3. The overall structure is in an integrated form and the safety mechanism is not attached to it.
  4. Before decomposing or after disposing, it should posses the safety protection to the managing staff.
  5. Easy to operate or require only simple training to make sure the objectives of safety and effectiveness can be achieved.

National Institute for Occupational and Safety Health (NIOSH) requests that workers, employers, manufacturers, editors of professional journals, safety and health officials, and labor unions implement the recommendations in the NIOSH_ALERT and bring them to the attention of all health care workers who use or may be exposed to needles in the workplace.

With attempting to provide the safest devices to the healthcare community, Axel Bio Corporation (ABCorp) uses the Product Competition Analysis to identify the most effective syringes for full protection of needlestick injuries. The following list includes the criteria for product evaluation:

  1. FDA Safety Guidelines
  2. Type of Syringe (Needle capping/sheathing vs. Needle retractable)
  3. Type of Patent (Improve vs. Invention)
  4. Similarity to Conventional Syringes
  5. Simplicity of Use
  6. Structural Soundness
  7. Training for Operation
  8. Cost Analysis

We strongly believe that thorough evaluations using the Product Competition Analysis guarantee the quality of the retractable safety syringes for ABCorp to distribute to the healthcare providers, thereby improving prevention of needlestick injury.
